The Assembly: Bats! Marvels of the Night Sky

Online Zoom Meeting Online Meeting - RSVP and we will contact you with details for login., Detroit

Sunday Assembly Detroit is a secular congregation that meets to hear great talks, sing songs and generally celebrate the wonder of life. It’s a service for anyone who wants to live better, help often, and wonder more. This free event is online during the COVID-19 pandemic. ***NPR Tiny Desk Concert Music*** During the pandemic, we are listening to various artists highlighted by NPR's Tiny Desk Concerts. ***Guest Speaker*** We don't have clergy, instead we have local community leaders and thinkers. For this month we are having Dr. Jon Cleland Host, to talk about Bats. Here is a taste of what he'll talk about this month: Many of us rarely even see a bat, but these marvels of the night sky live around us, with unseen abilities befitting superheroes and helping make our lives better. Come find out about these furry, flying friends! ***Our Program*** • Kickoff Music • Welcome • Gathering Song • Life Happens • Monthly Reading • Song • Featured Speaker • Question Time • Reflection Song • Monthly Address • Announcements • Closing Song ***Radically Inclusive*** We are a radically inclusive community and we welcome our LGBTQIA+ brothers, sisters, and siblings. We also welcome everyone along the secular/religious spectrum. Whatever your degree of religion, spirituality, or utter lack thereof you are welcome here. As an organization, we don't do religious, spiritual, or supernatural things, but we won't tell you you're wrong if you do. ***We can't wait to see you!*** If you're looking for an inviting and positive community, you've come to the right place. We look forward to getting to know you if you're new and welcoming you back home if you've been before. Knowledge Sharing Session: Mysterious Creatures

Online Zoom Meeting Online Meeting - RSVP and we will contact you with details for login., Detroit

~~This Month's Topic~~ This month we will be talking about mysterious creatures. While we know much more about the animals around us than we did even 50 years ago, there are still things that baffle scientists to this day. CJ will elaborate on some of these animal mysteries and the theories surrounding them, along with some recent developments in understanding our animal friends. If you like animals or the reminder that there’s still much of the universe left to figure out, join us! ~~What is a knowledge sharing session?~~ We all know something worth sharing with each other in our Sunday Assembly Community, which is why we created this event. Come listen to and workshop with a Sunday Assembly member as they talk about their skills and passions. Whether it's some great Excel tricks, playing a wicked chord on the guitar, knitting a hat, a passion for opossums, or a good set of stretches, you'll learn from passionate and educated peers. ~~How to Join~~ Join Zoom Meeting Online or by phone by heading over to our meetup event page: https://www.meetup.com/Sunday-Assembly-Detroit/events/272280579/
