Sunday Assembly Planning Meeting

Our meetings are now held each Monday at 6 pm online. No need to drive anywhere; from your own home you can sign in and we can get a lot of work done. Come and be part of a incredible network of secularist groups in the world, and a radically inclusive community of humanists, free-thinkers, and fun loving nerds, right here in the Detroit area. Once each month, we meet to plan all Sunday Assembly Detroit activities. We add great events to the calendar, find volunteering efforts to bring our community in, find ways of raising funds, prepare for the assemblies, and elect officers to execute the important tasks of a non-profit organization. We would love to have your input and contributions. Please RSVP if you plan to come, and feel free to contact one of the organizers for help.

Gleaners Food Bank of Detroit

Sunday Assembly will be volunteering at the Detroit Gleaners Warehouse. Afterwards, we will grab lunch a location to be determined. The projects in the warehouse vary. Volunteers may be sorting and/or packing food, assembling agency food orders, sweeping, and more. Please dress comfortably in clothes that might get dirty. In order to work in the warehouse, you are required to wear closed-toe shoes. In colder weather, please dress in layers. The warehouse is chilly, but you warm-up when the work begins. Since the jobs require some bending, please wear tops and bottoms that provide adequate coverage. They will provide small lockers for you to put your personal items in while you are volunteering, but we encourage you to leave valuables at home. They will also have water. If you would like to bring a snack for your break time, please feel free to do so. Please make every effort to arrive on-time. Parking is free in the gravel lot directly across the street from the warehouse. Please enter the building thru the door marked with the “Volunteer Entrance” sandwich-board sign. Sign in on the Sunday Assembly Detroit sheet. _____________________________________________ What is Gleaners? For more than 37 years, Gleaners Community Food Bank has been "feeding hungry people and nourishing our communities.” Last year, Gleaners distributed 41 million pounds of emergency food to more than 550 partner soup kitchens, shelters and pantries in Wayne, Oakland, Macomb, Livingston and Monroe counties. Of every dollar donated, Gleaners uses 94 cents for food and food programs. One dollar provides three meals for a hungry neighbor.

Drink wine (or beer or soda or flavored water or even coffee). Discuss with friends. Showtime starts at 7:30. We'll watch the first Talk and then break for 15 minutes or so to discuss it, refresh drinks, etc. Then we'll watch the second Talk; when its finished we can discuss the second Talk, compare/contrast the two Talks, refresh drinks, go potty, etc. Then no more videos, just socializing. :) Come meet friends and #LiveBetter. The specific Talks will be a surprise, but they will both relate to the theme.
